I have just been recently carrying out an electrical safety check for a regular customer who has moved property. Whilst on site the client informed me that after checking his electric meter his utility bill will be double in terms off units used come the end of the month and couldn’t understand why.
After a visual check of the property it was quite clear that the lighting throughout was not energy efficient, the kitchen had 9 down lights with each lamp being a 40w halogen. Compare this with modern LED lamps which are around 5w, there was 25 lights in total all being halogen style lamps you can totally understand the scale of energy which is being wasted here.
I advised the customer to replace all these lamp with LED equivalents, it can seem expensive initially but this is a long term investment. He also had fittings which required 5 lamps, he chose to go back to an original style pendant with only one bayonet lamp required, just another way to save on cost with the current financial climate.
